RESIDENTIAL HOUSING
Residential Housing
We are currently working on a significant number of small to large scale residential projects. Our expertise in all aspects of ground related development issues and experience of working with local authorities, Environment Agency and NHBC ensures a smooth transition for homebuyers, allowing them to move into their properties without delay or distress.
Hayes Green Cadishead
Former Clarian Chemical Works, Irlam
NX Consulting were employed by the client to provide an acceptable earthworks specification for site upfilling and implementation and validation of the agreed remediation strategy for this once controversial and high-profile site. Industrial processes had resulted in gross contamination of the soils and groundwater which has the potential impact site end users and the adjacent Manchester Ship Canal.
Additional site investigation works were required in parts where hydrocarbon contamination was found, and human health and controlled waters risk assessments carried out to establish any further remediation requirements.
The geotechnical properties of natural and made ground were derived using in-situ and ex-situ geotechnical testing techniques and implementation of a suitable Site Waste Management plan and characterisation and reuse of site won materials provided a significant cost saving to the client.
CBR & plate load testing of the subgrade formation enabled was conducted across the site to confirm the acceptable bearing capacity required for raft foundation design.
Regular liaison and communication with the local authority, Environment Agency and NHBC is paramount to enable of any relevant planning and NHBC conditions to be discharged.
Former Bickershaw Colliery (Pennington Wharf)
Leigh
Nx Consulting were employed by the client to carry out a Phase 1 Desk Study and preliminary and secondary site investigation works, remediation strategy and validation reporting on the former Colliery. Ground conditions were complex with a combination of buried infrastructure, ash and clays.
A combination of hand pitting, machine excavated trial pitting, window sampling and cable percussion boreholes were utilised to establish the ground conditions and develop a conceptual model. Relic basements and cable ducts were located during the works which needed to be considered as part of the earthwork’s specification and implementation. Contaminant sampling of the soils and risk assessments.
The result was an innovative solution comprising Tensar earth retaining walls, driven piles and reuse of site won and externally sourced fill to enable the development to be constructed.
Regular liaison and communication with the local authority, the Coal Authority, Environment Agency and NHBC is paramount to enable of any relevant planning and NHBC conditions to be discharged.
Former Hartshead High School
NX Consulting were employed by the client to carry out a pre-acquisition Phase 1 desk study, coal mining risk assessment and Phase 2 geotechnical site investigation to establish ground related risks. The site was underlain by multiple (possibly ‘worked’) coal seams which required site investigation works comprising rotary drilling, window sampling, cable tool percussion, trial pitting exploratory techniques to establish abnormal costs and approval with the Coal Authority and Local Authority.
Former BAE Munitions Factory Site
Shevington
NX Consulting provided pre-acquisition advice on this development to enable the client to establish abnormal costs associated with contamination and site foundations.
Regular early contact with Wigan Council representatives and the NHBC resulted in a cost saving to the client as cover systems and gas protection measures were not required for the site.
